Summer Monday Status

Its week 31 of 52. Erotic Proclivities – Seasons is in the second round of rewrites. I will continue to let you know how well that project goes here on the blog. The blog has had two poems added last week. I have another two ready to be posted this week. And, I have started the new weekly serial. It’s a story of a librarian using her ‘friends’ to fight the upcoming budget cuts. There’s nothing like a little ‘hot and heavy’ action to sway some votes.

In the meantime (blah blah blah blah-blah):

  • Literary Pursuits – a second Witch novella now in development
  • Erotic Proclivities  – read it here at Erotic Stories

Its week 29 of 52. That means there are only 23 weeks left in this year. As you can tell from the blog posts, there are two consecutive Monday Status posts in a row that I have once again not gotten much done here. That’s not to mean I have been idle, no! I have a couple of other blogs, one of which I’ve been busy catching up on. Oh the trials and tribulations of maintaining a presence on the web.. I’ll be re-posting a bunch of my stories to the Erotic Library.

In the meantime (blah blah blah blah-blah):

I HAVE finished the third round of edits to Erotic Proclivities #3. A vignette you might recall, submitted to lushstories.com, and they are STILL sticklers for good grammar.

Its week 27 of 52. This past week real-life work and bills prevented me from getting goals reached. I hate when this happens as I have a natural procrastination streak in me (yeah, I know, I don’t hide it here very well lol). I’ll be re-posting a bunch of my stories to the Erotic Library. I found it while crawling Craigslist writing gigs section.

Its week 26 of 52. There’s good news to announce… I have won! Yes! I won the writing.com ‘200 word flash fiction’ contest for May. I have also sent a submission for the Writer’s Digest photo-prompt contest that I hope will be well received.

This past week saw another thrilling episode in the 200 word flash fiction project, as well as a couple of poetic exercises. I hope to continue that this week as well. With the new forms and structures the poems are like Sudoku with words.

time02And so the 200 word flash fiction story continues… this week’s installment – History of the Dragon Disc Part 02. Here we learn the first part of the disc’s history… kind of self explanatory title.

Back in the days of the great Kublai, the dragon was strong as were its guards. Then inevitably complacency descended. The once fierce soldiers had been supplanted by civil servants with swords. The five who manned this night’s shift would be no match.

The winds of change had blown in and on them was carried a mysterious cloaked figure with a katana sword, moving stealthily in the shadows.

Steel and blood erupted silently from a guard’s chest, his eyes widened with uncomprehending surprise, and then closed. His compatriot moved to draw his own weapon but scarcely had he reacted when the katana pierced his neck. The only alarm this guard would deliver was a blood drowned gurgle.

But warnings would be futile as the three guards on the other side of the treasury doors would fare no better than these two. The once heavy oaken doors burst open and a whirlwind of finely honed blade flashed. The guards moved to confront the specter, drawing their swords and facing the challenge. Although they fought well to the last, the outcome was pre-ordained.

It was time for the dragon to travel once again, from these weakened Mongols to the strengthening Han peoples.

The Pain You Love – a tritina poetic experiment

article-2020579-0D3B009A00000578-97_634x849A tritina is a ten line sestina that uses three end words. The end words are rotated in three tercets (3 line stanzas) before all appearing in the final line. There is no rhyme schemes or subjects inherent to tritinas. They incorporate a quick repetition of words and the trick is to make it all sound natural.

The Pain You Love

I wait here bound and oblivious to my pain

Alone with my wounds thinking only for my Love

Within this isolated cell my only thoughts are of You

I realize that the only cure for my despair is love

As I wait bound and gagged thoughts I’m sure occur to you

These are inspirations for you to extract more of my pain

My mind is focused on what’s important to you

I present myself as a vessel waiting to receive their pain

Because it’s my way to show you my most intimate love

Then you will realize that the pain you love most is to feel your love’s pain

time02And so the 200 word flash fiction story continues… this week’s installment – History of the Dragon Disc Part 01. Here we learn the first part of the disc’s history… kind of self explanatory title.

Is the dragon cursed? Who can say? It was crafted during the Sung dynasty for emperor Zhao Yun. It was he who set the dragon disc to guard the entrance to his treasury. There it remained, immovable, a silent sentry guarding the wealth of the emperor, a symbol of his potent power. It fed on power.

It was said that the power of the emperor fed the dragon, and as it was fed, the dragon was strong. But, near the end of the song period, the emperors were weak, the dragon weakened. As it lay weakened it became the prey of thieves. Once it was taken, the troubles began, and finally, the last of the song emperors Zhao Bing fell before the Mongols. And yet through various intrigues and shady characters, the dragon resurfaced to guard the treasures of the new Mongol lords.

The year was 1260 when man wearing a cloak that had been worn long, and a katana sword arrived in Kaiping. He came for the kurultai that the new Khan had convened. The leather parcel he carried for these many years was ready to be presented to its new potent guardian. The dragon would be fed again.

time02And so the 200 word flash fiction story continues… this week’s installment – The Arrival (cue 70’s style TV detective show theme music).

The ship’s launch approached slowly. Captain Yamoto’s eyes strained to pierce the lifting fog, seeing the dock and its surroundings in shades of gray. As he drew closer he could make out a tall, lean man standing on the dock awaiting him. There were suppose to be two men here to make the exchange, he thought, appraising the stranger.

Every bit the pirate, Yamoto surmised. This mercenary of the Lady Lin seems very calm, the word that came to him was, serene. As the launch docked, he drummed his fingers nervously on the wooden box beside him, relieved that the jade disc would soon be this stranger’s misfortune. It lay there in the box and Yamoto couldn’t help but think of it as a sleeping serpent coiled and tensed for action.

Yamoto’s grandfather had acquired the rare, green jade disk with the gold dragon inlay-ed while he was commanding a small expeditionary force in China. It was said to plague its owner with various misfortunes, but who believes in such superstitions in this enlightened age, Yamoto, with very good reasons. After fifty dormant years in Japan it was time to send the serpent back. A storm gathering, ready to strike.
