Monday – Status Update – Site Stats Spike

Autumn Status Update

Its week 48 of 52, four weeks left in this year! As far as the #limericks project goes, things are on course. I am kicking off #thanksgiving week, an irreverent look at the upcoming orgy of food, then shopping. I’ll recap the Monday through Friday releases on this site weekly. As always you can keep up with the daily releases on my twitter feed: https://twitter.com/wastor64. I’ve set a goal of doubling my twitter followers through this project. I’m also looking now at setting ‘engagement’ goals through the analytics.

This week the top ten will be celebrating thanksgiving as well, and Wednesday another essay will be posted so watch for a nice picture of Scarlett Johansson.

I’m still working on a title for the new project. I’m thinking “Objects in the Rear-view Window”, or ” The Past Approaches with Stealth”. I have to think of something catchy other than “Do Me My Friend’s Daddy” lol.

Also.. watch for it on Smashwords… I am in the process of putting the Caitlin story together and formatting it for distribution.

As for last week, the site stats took a real spike on Friday following the release of the Diana series poem. I think the traffic spike was due to a formatting change on the tweet announcing the posting on the blog. I will be putting together another poem, perhaps a Julia sonnet and formatting the tweet with similar hash-tags and so if I can replicate the traffic.

In the meantime (blah blah blah blah-blah):

  • Literary Pursuits – a second Witch novella being serialized here and now
  • Erotic Proclivities  – read it here at Erotic Stories
  • Two Fingers – read it here: Lushstories.com
  • Caitlin (Five chapter novella) – approved, read it here at Literotica.com

Autumn Status Update

Its week 43 of 52, (less than nine weeks left in this year!) and its #sexywitchweek on the limericks project. This week’s limericks will all be focused on sexy witches as we head into Halloween. I’ll recap the Monday through Friday releases on this site weekly. As always you can keep up with the daily releases on my twitter feed: https://twitter.com/wastor64.

Last week was a productive one here at the Will Alan blog; I posted one new essay in the ‘Something I Find Sexy’ series, I put together another ‘‘Tuesday Top Ten’ item my list of the Top Ten liquid writer’s block cures, and I posted the Friday limerick roundup. I did not release another episode of the weekly serial. I really do need to take a good hard look at that piece and see what I can do to lengthen it, and make it more relevant to erotic fiction and just make it a better story. I’m thinking that if I make the segments larger and more ‘encapsulated’, I will be able to maintain a focus on quality.

So as October settles in I will be busy with daily output. I have been reading Stephen King’s ‘On Writing” and really getting a couple of tangible ideas to put into practice. One of these ideas has me focusing on how many words I’m banging out on a daily basis. My goal is 1,000 words per day. Stephen writes about 2,000 words per day, before lunch! You know that there is an essay in there somewhere. I suppose that I could always tease it out. Perhaps even post it here.

Summer Monday Status

Its week 36 of 52. That leaves only 16 weeks until the end of the year. “Like sands through the hourglass.” Who remembers that line?

Well this week saw the blog grow. I add two more poems, one of the Julia series and the other a Christine. I also added one more installment to the weekly serial. Also, I have been faithful to the twitter feed project of posting one limerick per day in our countdown to #stpats2015. That’s the hash tag to follow: #stpats2015. I’m also posting this to my new Pinterest board ( http://www.pinterest.com/willalan64/limericks/ ) and I’ll occasionally show one here to remind everyone.

Two poems and another episode of the weekly serial was good progress towards my goal. I’m hoping this week to continue with at least one poem, one essay, and another Sunday serial installment

525,600 Minutes – Finding Time to Write

minutesLately there’s this song that’s been going through my mind. It’s “Seasons of Love” from the show “Rent”. I’ve never seen the show or the movie, perhaps I should, but the line “five hundred twenty five thousand six hundred minutes, to measure a year”, recurs in the chorus of the song. Measuring the year in minutes, and how we choose to use those minutes is the focal point of the song, and I suppose a sub plot of the movie/show. But lately I have been thinking about how it is that I use my time.

It’s been said that time is the great equalizer of men, rich or poor, young or old, no matter your position in this life. We are all granted twenty four hours, or in this example, twenty four times sixty minutes a day. How do we employ those minutes? How do we deploy those minutes? How best to use today’s minutes to make tomorrows minutes worth that much more? Because, tomorrow brings with it a hole fresh set of these precious minutes provided we are lucky enough to be blessed with a tomorrow.

Are we finding time to write, then finding time to rewrite? We often talk in terms of ‘finding time’ as if our minutes are hiding somewhere and we have to go chasing after them. Instead, we need to keep the mindset of ‘making time’ for writing. How can we make time? We take those minutes we spend on other things (In my case it’s the minutes being used to passively watch the tele) and MAKE them writing minutes. Minutes invested in developing our skill, honing our craft.

We need to make time for writing because there are no ‘new’ minutes to find. Each one of us, young or old, rich or poor, has only 525,600 minutes to measure a year.

Tracking Progress

google_girl
It’s the first of the month and one of the chores I’m engaged with is updating my tracking excel sheet.

I keep track of the stories I’ve submitted to different sites. I track the page views they generate. I’m trying to find out which audiences prefer which stories and then give the readers what they want… and mostly what they want so far is more sex!

But I also notice that some sited generate more readers than others. There are a couple of site however, which don’t provide me, the author, with any metrics for seeing how often a story is viewed.

Another thing I work at keeping track of is social media penetration. I commit to record the number of tweets i put out, the number of blog posts i put out, and the number of Facebook posts that I put out monthly. I want to make sure that I’m doing what I can to keep in touch with readers, and potential readers.
